Information about the Rithmi application
Rithmi is an app that allows you to monitor your heart rhythm 24 hours a day, with the aim of detecting possible abnormalities in heart rhythm and prevent possible cases of stroke.
Rithmi checks your heart rate variability obtained through data obtained from different types of sensors to look for abnormalities in your heart rhythm. The most common arrhythmia is atrial fibrillation, which affects about 3% of the world’s population and is one of the main causes of stroke.
Rithmi is a Class I medical product, approved by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS). In addition, the company has implemented the ISO 13485 medical device quality standards for all its processes.
The Rithmi app is available for both iOS and Android operating systems. You can download it from your Apple Store or Play Store.
In order to use Rithmi, a minimum version of the operating system is required:
Android 5.0
iOS 11
The Rithmi application does not share any data. All our databases are encrypted and pseudo-anonymized. It is the user who can share information and reports with the doctor if he/she wishes to do so. Rithmi also complies with all current GDPR regulations concerning the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.
The photoplethysmography sensor incorporated in the wearable devices compatible with the Rithmi application are very sensitive to movement, therefore, it is very important to remain at rest, for example sitting, resting your arms on a table or on your legs, without moving and without talking. It is also important that before taking the test, you have not been physically active or drunk coffee, tea or tobacco. When you are ready, perform the test from the Rithmi application and stay 30 seconds in the indicated position. At the end, you will be able to see your result.
Our recommendation is to test 3 times a day: morning, afternoon and evening. If you can’t, at least test once a day. It only takes 30 seconds.
If a possible abnormality in your heart rate has been detected after the test, you should repeat the test to check that everything is correct. If after performing a second test, the test result is the same, you should consider the following:
The detection of an anomaly may be due to the bracelet not being properly adjusted, before taking the test you have suffered episodes of stress, you have done some physical activity or you have consumed stimulating substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. Check that you comply with our recommendations and perform a new test.
If these results occur frequently, we recommend that you make an appointment with your doctor so that he or she can review your test history and establish guidelines for further testing or monitoring.
The risk of stroke is calculated through the Framingham Index, a scoring method that gives a risk of cardiovascular disease taking into account a number of factors such as: whether you are male or female, age, pathologies and risk factors such as diabetes, cholesterol or smoking. Thanks to this index, it is possible to calculate an approximate percentage of risk of suffering a stroke in the next 10 years for people over 55 years old without a previous stroke.
The tests performed with the Rithmi application have 95% sensitivity and 95% specificity. The study was conducted in 160 patients with atrial fibrillation at the Hospital “La Fe” in Valencia. The study was led by cardiologist Dr. Joaquín Oscà and was published in the “Revista Española de Cardiología”.
The price of the Rithmi application is 3,49€ per month or 34,90€ per year. By purchasing the annual subscription you save two months.

To start using Rithmi FlashCheck, you only need the camera and the flash of your mobile phone. In a simple and convenient way you can monitor the health of your heart without using external devices, just using your mobile phone.
Yes, you can do the arrhythmia test from any mobile phone, as long as you have the Rithmi application and the phone has a camera and flash. Keep in mind that some phones have several cameras, so you should try to do the test by covering one or more, depending on the model of your phone. The application will notify you when the signal is good.
- Rithmi recommends two measurements per day, one in the morning and one in the evening, while resting. Additional measurements during the day are recommended if symptoms occur.
- Testing in brightly lit outdoor areas may affect the result, it is recommended to test indoors.
- In order to take the tests you need an internet connection on your mobile phone.
- Testing is not recommended for children under 22 years of age.
- Be sure not to cover the camera flash while testing, sometimes the camera flash can get hot and cause discomfort to your finger.
- Wearing fingernail polish or tattoos on the finger can weaken the signal and interfere with the effectiveness of the tests.
- In the event of a “heart condition correct” result, Rithmi does not guarantee that the user will not experience arrhythmias or other health problems. For any changes or suspicions in your health status, we recommend that you consult your doctor.
If the application notifies you that it has detected an anomaly, it may also be due to:
- Not placing your finger properly on the phone’s camera or covering the flash.
- Talk or move the hand you are holding the phone with during the test.
- Putting your finger on the wrong camera
- Before the test, you have been under stress or have been involved in sports or other activities.

Information about the Rithmi application connected to a wearable device (Garmin)
Rithmi uses heart rate obtained from data extracted from Garmin devices. Most wearables use photoplethysmography (PPG), which measures light absorption from the blood. By measuring the changes in light absorption of the blood through the blood vessels, the heart rate is obtained.
Monitoring with Garmin watches is not continuous, it’s up to you to start the test whenever you want. You choose when to take a test.
In many cases, arrhythmias do not show up with symptoms and the person does not know that he or she is suffering from them. That is why it is important to do at least one test a day. We recommend doing 3, in the morning, afternoon and evening. If at any time you feel palpitations or a racing heart, it is also advisable to do a test.
